House fire in Caledonia causes $50,000 damage

A fire in Caledonia  Friday night did an estimated $50,000 damage to a portion of the single family home.  According to Caledonia Fire Department officials, the fire destroyed an attached garage and its contents and caused smoke damage to a breezeway connecting the garage to the home.   The house itself was not severely damaged.   

Authorities report that the fire was discovered by a neighbor around 9:45 PM.   The two residents of the house near 6 Mile Road and Douglas Avenue were away from home at the time of the fire.  

No one was injured in the fire, but authorities said two pet cats died, five others are still missing.   One cat, a rabbit and a dog were rescued by firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
