Hartford Police Officer Opens Fire to Avoid Being Run Over By a Truck

A Hartford Police Officer opened fire Friday night to avoid being run over by a shoplifting suspect.

The call first came in as a fight at a store.

Responding officers then learned the person was suspected of shoplifting.

The individual, a man from Milwaukee according the Hartford Police Chief, would not cooperate.

He took off running, then got into a car. The suspect was then involved in a crash before hopping into a truck where the officer says the truck started speeding in his direction.

The police department is not releasing the name or details about the officer or the suspect.

It is recommending charges of recklessly endangering safety.

Nobody was hit by gunfire.
