Green Bay Packers Signed Two Players to Active Roster

Green Bay Packers signed Wide Receiver Geronimo Allison and Safety Jermaine Whitehead to the active roster from the practice squad.

They signed WR Dez Stewart to the practice squad, and placed WR Jared Abbrederis and S Chris Banjo on injured reserve.

The transactions were announced Monday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

Allison, a 6-foot-3, 202-pound rookie out of the University of Illinois, was originally signed by the Packers as an undrafted free agent on May 6. He has spent the entire regular season on Green Bay’s practice squad. Allison played two seasons at Illinois after starting his career at Iowa Western Community College. He started 22 of 24 games played for the Fighting Illini, recording 106 receptions for 1,480 yards (14.0 avg.) and eight touchdowns.

Whitehead, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound first-year player out of Auburn University, was originally signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2015. He spent most of his rookie season on the 49ers’ practice squad before being signed to the Baltimore Ravens’ active roster on Dec. 23, 2015, where he was inactive for the final two games of the season. After being released by the Ravens on May 13, he signed with Green Bay on May 18 and has spent the entire regular season on the Packers’ practice squad.

Stewart, a 6-foot, 200-pound rookie out of Ohio Dominican, was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on May 2, but was released on May 11. He signed with the Washington Redskins on July 18 before being released on Aug. 27. Stewart played in 43 games in college, recording 196 receptions for 3,197 yards (16.3 avg.) and 25 touchdowns.
