Gov. Walker signs three bills strengthening domestic violence laws

MILWAUKEE --  It's all about getting new tools to fight domestic violence.  



That's what Carmen Pitre from the Sojourner Family Peace Center thinks about the three bills being signed into law by Gov. Scott Walker Wednesday.



She says it's important to keep moving forward to help domestic violence victims, advocates as well as law-enforcement.



She says there's always loopholes in any legislation. However continuing to fight for victims is a huge part. She says she's proud of the progress in the state.  



But there's always more work to be done. She did say the laws being signed today are good laws.



\"We need an array of tools,\" Sojourner Family Peace Center Executive Director Carmen Pitre said.  \"No one tool, like just a restraining order is not going to work in this instance. We need an array. We need to arrest when appropriate.  We need to prosecute when appropriate, have a strong sentence. Treatment available and we need to hold that person accountable.\"



Gov. Walker will sign the bills this afternoon at Zimmerman Architectural Studios in Milwaukee. Zimmerman has partnered with the Sojourner Family Peace Center to build its new facility near 6th and Walnut which will break ground in September.
