Family members of 4-year-old hit and run victim honor her memory
WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Three members of the University of Virginia football team are dead, including a former Wisconsin Badger, after a shooting on the Virginia campus Sunday night, Nov. 13.
Devin Chandler transferred from the University of Wisconsin. He, along with teammates D'Sean Perry and Lavel Davis Jr. were shot as they returned from a field trip to Washington, D.C.
On Monday, school officials were in the middle of a press conference when they learned that the suspected gunman, Christopher Darnell Jones, had been arrested.
"Just give me a moment to thank God...breathe a sigh of relief," said UVA Police Chief Timothy Longo.
"This is an extraordinarily difficult day for our community, and we need to comfort and support each other and those closest to the victims," said Jim Ryan, UVA president.
Several statements have come from UW-Madison in response to the shooting of Devin Chandler.
The Badger football program called him a "tremendous young man and a great teammate" who will be greatly missed.
Intermin Head Coach Jim Leonard said Chandler "had a lasting impact on his teammates, even after he left UW."
