Fire causes $3,000 in damage at Racine auto shop

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) – A fire at a Racine auto shop caused around $3,000 in damage Friday morning.

Authorities say it happened at Hernandez Auto near Taylor Ave. and Meachem St. around 4:25 a.m.

Officials say the fire started in the maintenance bay and was discovered by a police officer patrolling the area.

Crews were able to put out the fire quickly and keep it contained to a small area. The building was damaged by smoke and water.

No one was inside the shop at the time and no injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.
