Fatal crash in Springfield leaves motorcyclist dead

SPRINGFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A motorcyclist was stopped at an intersection and was fatally struck from behind by a car around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 in the town of Springfield, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office. 

It happened at the intersection of CTH K at US 12 westbound. 

According to officials, the motorcyclist was struck from behind by a 2012 Buick sedan who had been traveling westbound on US HWY 12. The operator of the motorcycle was transported to UW hospital and declared dead upon arrival. 

Officials say alcohol appears to be a factor in the cause of the crash. 

The crash is currently under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff's Department.
