Family of five recovering after capsizing their kayaks on the Milwaukee River

The Grafton Fire Department received a call for a person who had capsized in the Milwaukee River.

According to the fire department, the person was calling for help just south of the Falls Road bridge, shortly after 1 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Four adults and one child were kayaking from Grafton to Mequon when stronger than expected currents resulted in all five capsizing their kayaks.

The family was able to make to the west shore safely with only minor injuries.
