Eight horses die in Caledonia barn fire

CALEDONIA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Caledonia Police responded to a barn fire on Monday evening around 6 p.m. When officers arrived someone was trying to pull siding off the barn to rescue horses trapped inside the barn.

The officer helped the citizen until the heat became too intense and they had to move back. 

Caledonia Fire responded along with six other fire departments.

Eight horses were found dead inside the barn and two mini horses that were thought to be in the barn were not found. One of the living horses had severe burns and had to be euthanized.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is not considered suspicious.
