Early Morning Fire Damages North Side Business
The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a 1 alarm fire on Milwaukee’s north side early this morning. The fire was reported around 1:15 AM in a two story building at N 1st and East Burleigh Streets that houses Russell’s Foods on the first floor and has vacant apartments on the second. According to authorities, the fire was confined to the second floor of the building, burning a hole through the roof and partially through the floor to the business below. A search of the building found no one inside at the time of the fire. Several MFD Engine companies responded to the fire, as did a ladder truck from the North Shore Fire Department. Firefighters were able to contain the fire in a little over an hour. There is no dollar estimate of damage, and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
