Duplex Damaged by Early Morning Fire

Two families were displaced by an early morning fire today in a duplex in the area of N 50th and W Hadley Streets in Milwaukee.  The Milwaukee Fire Department was called to the scene just before 3 AM.  The fire was confined to the attic area of the three story, wood framed building.  Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in about 70 minutes.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  The number of people living in the lower unit is unavailable, but two adults and a child lived in the upper unit.  Both families were able to evacuate the building without injury before firefighters arrived.  The Red Cross was contacted to assist the families.  Damage to the building and its contents is estimated at 70-thousand dollars.
