WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police say a man is in custody following a pursuit and crash in Whitefish Bay Monday, Feb. 6.

Officials say an officer attempted to stop a vehicle going approximately 50 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone just before 4:15 p.m. near N. Santa Monica Boulevard and E. Lancaster.

Police say the driver accelerated, went through a stop light and attempted to conduct a U-turn. Authorities say the driver did not listen to commands to stop, at times driving in reverse while going northbound in southbound lanes of traffic.

Officials say the vehicle eventually stopped on a median and three squad cars surrounded the vehicle. A passenger was taken from the vehicle and placed in custody, but police say the driver again fled the scene, accelerating over the median and almost striking an officer.

Police lost sight of the vehicle and a short time later, Milwaukee police attempted to stop the driver. The driver again fled and ultimately crashed.

The driver was taken into custody by Milwaukee police.

Charges are being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
