Dog expected to be okay after falling through ice in Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The South Shore Fire Department tells CBS 58 the dog has been reunited with its owner. The owner contacted the Fire Department through the vet to express appreciation for their rescue.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Around 3:41 p.m. on Saturday, January 13 the South Shore Fire Department and Mt. Pleasant Police Department were sent to the 3200 block of Island Club North for a report of a dog that had fallen through the ice.

A large golden lab fell through the ice of a pond about 40 feet from shore and was struggling to stay above the water.

Two firefighters entered the pond with rescue suits and were able to get the dog out of the water by 3:55 p.m.

The dog was wrapped in blankets and re-warmed before being taken to the vet.

The dog is expected to survive and officials are currently looking for the owner who was not at the pond.
