MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The UW-Madison Police Department (UWPD) is investigating the discovery of a body found in Lake Mendota earlier this morning, July 8.
Law enforcement was contacted around 6:10 a.m. after a passerby spotted a body around 50 feet offshore near Memorial Union.
UWPD responded and with the assistance of Madison Fire, recovered the body from the water.
Preliminary investigation shows the body to be of a middle-aged male. There are no signs of foul play at this time.
The identity of the individual and additional details will be released after the initial investigation and family have been notified.
