City officials tour south side neighborhoods as a part of affordable housing initiative

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Federal, county, and city officials are continuing to end the affordable housing crisis in Milwaukee. 

$6 million dollars were invested by Joe Biden, The American Rescue Plan Act and DHHS towards the construction of 100 homes in south side neighborhoods in Milwaukee. 

On Friday, April 19, Milwaukee County leaders and Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity led a tour of the new initiative with federal and local officials. 

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson says there are thousands of people who are ready but cannot afford to buy a home in Milwaukee. 

"And yet while those folks are seeking to enter home ownership, there are vacant lots all over Milwaukee where new homes could be built. Each and single one of those lots, each one of them represents an opportunity that represent a possibility a stable of an affordable home for a family that wants to have a home here in Milwaukee," said Johnson. 

County Executive David Crowley tells us their teams were "very intentional" with the location of the new homes, with mental health resources, a Milwaukee County Park and more.
