EAGLE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Leave behind the hustle and bustle of the modern world and experience Christmas as it was 200 years ago.

Old World Wisconsin's Home for the Holidays event will bring out a Victorian Santa, horse drawn wagon rides and traditions from around the globe.

"We are here in the 1880s in the Irish Home," said Chelsea Tegels Meyris with Old World Wisconsin.

The home decor was simpler. With an empty manger in the corner of the room.

"Baby Jesus will be put in on Christmas Day as a celebration, but for now it is waiting as a reminder to contemplate, and hope and wait for Christmas," said Tegels Meyris.

By recreating life in the 19th century, you'll learn about traditions like Hannukah, St. Nick's Day and St. Lucia, a Scandanavian celebration.

A large tree in Caldwell Hall signifies the place for community celebrations.

"Communities might get together for Christmas parties, have drinks, have some music, have fun together just like we do today," said Tegels Meyris.

This year, the tree is decorated to the theme of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Her stories will be shared during story times during Home for the Holidays.

Just a few feet away you can learn about the Scandinavian celebration of St. Lucia.

Home for the Holidays is taking place at Old World Wisconsin for the first three weekends of December.
