UPDATE: Power restored to customers after blown transformer ignites fire at We Energies substation

UPDATE: MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- We Energies confirms that restoral of customers without power has been completed.

Everyone that lost power due to the transformer fire should now be restored.

UPDATE: MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- We Energies has confirmed that over 19,000 people are without power following a blown transformer Tuesday afternoon.

We Energies said the outage was caused by a transmission failure. The equipment then started smoking and caught on fire.

We Energies had to de-energize the transformer which caused the outages.

They are working to restore the power.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a fire at the We Energies substation, located at 2711 N. 30th Street.

It happened shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday. 

According to We Energies, a transformer in a fenced in area blew, causing the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.

No injuries have been reported.
