Basement fire strikes Milwaukee home, 8 residents evacuated

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A fire broke out in a Milwaukee residence early Monday, April 3, but was contained before spreading, and no injuries have been reported.

The Milwaukee Fire Department told CBS 58 that the call came in around 12:30 a.m. for a fire at a 2.5 story residence near S. 17th and W. Mineral. Firefighters responded to the scene and were able to control the fire, which was contained to the basement and did not spread to other parts of the house.

CBS 58 was also informed that eight adult occupants of the residence were able to evacuate. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to all impacted individuals.

At this time, there are no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
