MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – It’s not even been two months since the devastating fire at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The roof may be gone but the outside structure and the faith of its parishioners remain.
Construction crews started work on the south wall this week.
“It’s an exciting time for the church,” said Christine Behnke, Director of Parish Education.
Workers are attaching metal plates onto the existing building that will be tied to a vertical I-beam. This will help the bottom part of the building support the gable.
Once they finish the south gable, workers will move on to the other three.
“Seeing the work starting on the south wall is an answer to our prayers and visible evidence to the community that God is providing for and guiding His people,” said Ron Yancey, chairman.
There is no official construction timeline but these are the first steps to bring Trinity Lutheran Church back to what it once was.
"We've really had to have the patience, we all wanted to see something happen and now that it is, we praise God for that,” said Behnke.
Sunday service will be held at MATC through the month of July.
