83-year-old assaulted, injured in Greendale home invasion; Milwaukee man arrested

GREENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 25-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested in connection with a burglary and battery investigation in Greendale. 

Police say just after midnight on Sept. 13, near 84th and West Edgerton Avenue, a report came in of a subject attempting to gain entry into a residence. Officers checked the area but did not locate anyone. 

Less than an hour later, just before 1 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence on Midland Drive for a burglary report. Officials say an 83-year-old victim inside the residence was physically assaulted and sustained several injuries. The victim was taken to a hospital for multiple injuries but is expected to survive. 

Authorities determined the two calls were related and a suspect was identified -- a 25-year-old Milwaukee man. 

Around 4:40 p.m., police located the suspect in Milwaukee, and he was taken into custody and transported to the Milwaukee County Jail. 

Charges are being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. 

There is no threat to the public.
