MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee teenager is facing charges after a crash killed a woman near Servite and Brown Deer Road

Nineteen-year-old Alanyas Margary-Ramos is charged with knowingly operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, causing death. The woman killed was identified as Velina Alexander.

Police responded to the accident on Saturday, April 6. Upon arrival, police say they found two heavily damaged vehicles at the scene.

According to a criminal complaint, a witness said he was with Margary-Ramos and was going to the gas station with her to pick up formula. They drove separate vehicles. The witness said they were heading back home, and that he and Margary-Ramos had a green light going eastbound. The witness stated the vehicle with Alexander inside drove southbound in front of Margary-Ramos, and they crashed.

The witness told investigators Margary-Ramos tried to swerve out of the way but was unsuccessful. He said he got out to help Margary-Ramos, and she was transported to the hospital.

Life-saving measures were performed, but Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the complaint, video was obtained of the crash from businesses nearby. Both videos depicted the accident with Margary-Ramos heading eastbound at a speed that appears more than the posted speed limit of 40 mph. Alexander's vehicle appears to head westbound and begins to make a left turn to head southbound. As Alexander's vehicle enters traffic lanes while making the turn, Margary-Ramos' vehicle crashes into the passenger's side of the vehicle.

The medical examiner says Alexander's cause of death was due to blunt force injuries from the crash.

A records check was conducted, according to the criminal complaint. It was discovered that Margary-Ramos had never been issued a license, and her license status was "suspended" at the time of the crash.

Margary-Ramos is scheduled to be back in court on Thursday, May 16.
