MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It takes money to help homeless people find places to live and the Milwaukee area is getting a big chunk of federal money, $10.6 million dollars to be exact.
Joseph P. Galvan, the HUD Midwest Regional Administrator, came to town to announce that the grant money will go to 23 local agencies and that will help more people like Melvette Scott who said she was able to get off the streets thanks to programs like "Project Bridge" and "Housing First."
"I moved from the Housing First program in August so I have a two bedroom apartment with garage and I'm just doing well and I'm happy and I'm grateful for HUD," Scott said.
HUD will send more than 23 million dollars to organizations all over the state to help the homeless.
