MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As we approach the New Year, a lot of people are starting to think about healthy resolutions.
UW- Health experts say people should take vitamins and supplements to help take care of yourself.
They usually recommend multi vitamins to patients, especially vitamin D for those who live in Wisconsin, where it's usually darker outside this time of year.
However, experts say some supplements can be misleading.
"I always say to get a product that has a third party that actually investigates what's in those products. For example, a supplement company can submit their products to either USP (U.S. Pharmacopeia) or consumer labs. Those are two common ones to verify what's actually in their products," said Dr. Elizabeth Dow-Hillgartner, clinical pharmacist.
UW Health says this helps accurately reflect what's in the bottle.
National health experts say some supplements do not fully list allergens or might not even have an accurate ingredient list.
