Families Dealing with Unanswered Questions After Series of Inmate Deaths

Four people have died this year in the Milwaukee County Jail, compared to zero in the past two years.

One family says they just want answers and are looking for ways to get them.

Kristina Fiebrink died in the jail in August, and almost three months later, her family still has no idea how or why it happened.

"We don't hear anything anymore and nobody contacts us. They don't give us any updates on what's going on," said Leon Limon, Fiebrink's brother.

Limon says since the day an investigator showed up to tell him his 38 year-old-sister,  Kristina Fiebrink, died in jail, their family has heard nothing.

"That's it. She was in jail and she died in our custody. That's what I got. No cause of death .Nothing," he said.

Limon is not alone. A report done by a court-appointed monitor of the jail, Dr. Ronald Shansky shows even he did not get complete reports on any of the deaths, saying some were missing autopsies or death summaries and "for none of the deaths have I received a corrective action plan."

MCSO has given no details on the death of Fiebrink, Michael madden or Shadé Swayzer's baby death and only said inmate Terrill Thomas died of extreme dehydration. It's troubling information for Limon.

"The torture. Was she just laying there suffering? Was she just laying there all night? We'll never know," he said.

Especially after an inmate housed near Fiebrink told him his sister was in pain.

"Your sister was begging for help from the corrections officer, that she needed medical attention and she just didn't get it," is what he said this inmate told him.

Limon says without answers soon the family will look at getting outside help.

"The sheriffs are investigating themselves? Come on. Is that going to be fair? Its conflict of interest," Limon said.

It's important to note: CBS 58 has requested more information on these deaths from both the Milwaukee County Sheriff and the Milwaukee County Medical examiner. We were told in each case that they were still under investigation. As Thomas' death was ruled a homicide, it is being investigated by the Milwaukee Police Department.
