New Clinic Opens in Pewaukee to Tackle "Super Lice"

It's the news that had parents and their children alike scratching their heads.

A study in the Journal of Medical Entomology found that  42 of 48 states tested were dealing with super lice, resistant to over-the-counter treatments.

In Wisconsin, the super lice were 100% of samples were resistant.

Apparently, the lice have mutated, some blame this on the over use of chemicals that had been effective in the past.

This may be in part to people using them when not needed.

A New Lice Clinics of America branch has opened in Pewaukee.

It uses an FDA approved heat treatment to kill the lice and their eggs.

The treatment also includes a comb out and treatment with a topical treatment to get any lice that may have survived.

Jamie Jauregui, Owner of Lice Clinics of America, Lake Country in Pewaukee says the treatment may be pricey at nearly $200, but there is a one month guarantee and families do report some eggs in the days that follow, but they are dead.

His interview is attached to this story.
