Wisconsin hits daily high for positive COVID-19 cases for third time this week
MADISON, Wis. (AP/CBS 58) — Wisconsin has broken the record for new positive coronavirus cases for the third time in a week as a surge that began in early September shows no signs of abating.
The state also hit record highs for daily deaths and hospitalizations this week.
Also on Friday, a third lawsuit was filed arguing that Democratic Gov. Tony Evers had overstepped his authority by issuing public health emergencies and implementing a statewide mask mandate and capacity limits for bars and restaurants.
Evers on Friday launched a television ad criticizing Republicans for inaction. President Donald Trump planned to hold a rally Saturday in the state.
For the first time, the 7-day average of new confirmed cases tops 3,000.
An additional 135 people were hospitalized as of 2 p.m. Friday, and 21 more people have died.
To date, there have been 1,574 coronavirus deaths in Wisconsin.
