MPS: Assata High School student shot, returns to school to seek help
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A student at Assata High School in Milwaukee was shot and killed while leaving school on Friday, Nov. 14.
According to Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), the student leaving the high school -- located on Courtland Avenue -- had early dismissal and after leaving the school they were shot.
The shooting happened near N. Hopkins and W. Glendale Ave. around 11:51 a.m. according to Milwaukee police. The suspects in the shooting attempted to rob the student when shots were fired, hitting both the student and a suspect.
The 18-year-old student returned to the school for help, prompting the school to go into lockdown. The student was transported to a local hospital for serious injuries and later died.
The 17-year-old suspect was also transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries and is in police custody.
The lockdown remains in place Friday afternoon and Milwaukee police are seeking out additional suspect(s).
