MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The next Milwaukee County executive, David Crowley, was handing out meals to seniors Wednesday morning as part of a program run by the county's Department on Aging.
This was one of Crowley's first public appearances since he became the first African American elected to run Milwaukee County government.
He says it was "good to be out of the house."
Reporters asked him about reopening businesses in the county and he said government, business and health care providers all need to talk about that first.
"You can't have a healthy economy without a healthy community," Crowley said. "And so we know that businesses want to open up, but we need to make sure that their workforce is healthy. We need to make sure that their customer base is absolutely healthy as well."
Crowley is preparing for his swearing-in as county executive next Monday.
He says there will be a virtual element to the ceremony, though they're still working on the details.
