Kaul, Schimel spar over kits, experience in dueling ads

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The ad battle between Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel and Democratic challenger Josh Kaul rages on.

Schimel's campaign is launching a new ad this week ripping Kaul as an inexperienced prosecutor who has never won a conviction in Wisconsin. Kaul spent four years as an assistant federal prosecutor in Baltimore before moving back to Wisconsin to work as an attorney.

Kaul, meanwhile, put up a new statewide spot this past weekend attacking Schimel again for delays in testing sexual assault evidence kits. Schimel got grants in 2015 to begin testing 4,100 kits but didn't complete testing until this past September. The new ad blasts Schimel for taking two years to test the first nine kits.

Schimel has countered that it took time to inventory kits and contract with private labs.
