DNR: Spring hunters killed nearly 39K turkeys
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Hunters killed nearly 39,000 turkeys during Wisconsin's spring seasons this year.
Preliminary data on the state Department of Natural Resources website shows hunters killed 38,886 turkeys. Hunters had the most success in southwestern Wisconsin's Zone 1, where they killed 11,235 birds.
DNR spokesman Sawyer Briel said Tuesday that the agency is still compiling 2017 spring kill totals. Hunters killed 45,501 turkeys during the 2016 spring hunt. They took 40,975 turkeys during the 2015 spring hunt.
