Big Ten to limit football, fall sports to conference games

WISCONSIN (AP) -- The Big Ten Conference won't play non-conference games in football or other sports this fall because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The league made the announcement on Thursday, July 9, citing medical advice, but also added the caveat that that's only "if the Conference is able to participate in fall sports."

The announcement came a day after the Ivy League Conference canceled sporting events until at least January.

For the Wisconsin Badgers, that means three football games will be eliminated from the schedule, including an eagerly anticipated showdown with Notre Dame at Lambeau Field on Oct. 3.

The Big Ten is now the first Power Five conference to announce changes to the football season because of COVID-19.
