2 killed in Madison crash

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Two people were killed in Madison when their car slammed into the back of a city garbage truck.

Police say the truck was stopped at a red light when the car, traveling at a high rate of speed, crashed into the truck. The driver of the car died at the scene Wednesday afternoon. A passenger was taken to UW Hospital and died there.

Authorities say the victims were from Dane County and in their 70s.
