A major requirement for barbers and cosmetologists could get cut.
The state requires more than 1,500 hours of training before students take an exam and earn a professional license.
Once they've passed the exam, the bill says students will not have to go through additional training.
A local salon employee tells us getting rid of this requirement is concerning. They want their stylists to keep up with the latest technology, techniques, and safety procedures.
"We as a whole are dedicated to continuing education no matter what stands within the state legislature of making sure our salon and spa professionals are the best of their craft," said Lynn Reich with Necroli Spa.
The bill would also allow stylists to cut hair off-site and would eliminate additional required hours to become a manager.
