United Way sets $60,125,000 Goal for Next Year

The United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County has set a fundraising goal of $60,125,000 for next year, up from an even $60-million last year.

The organization revealed that number at an annual event Wednesday afternoon at the Milwaukee County Zoo.

    "We understand what the challenges are, we understand what the opportunities are, and we are committed every year to raising more money that we can invest back into the community," says Nicole Angresano, the Vice President of Community Impact for the organization. 

The event showcased a handful of families who have been directly helped by the 220 health and human service programs Angresano says the United Way invests in. 

     "At the end of every dollar, inside every agency, are real people being served by these programs every single day," she says.

That includes Dawn Lhuillier and her daughter Maya. The 7-year-old was born with down syndrome and visual impairments. Through a partnership with the United Way, the family has been able to receive specialized treatment with Vision Forward, a group that works to empower those with vision issues.

     "I can't even explain to you the depth of everything they have done for us and the program that has helped Maya so much," says Dawn.

The Milwaukee and Waukesha organizations merged last year, creating the "United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County". Together, they service Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington Counties.
