DNR Program Could Help Replace Aging Lead Pipelines

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is hoping to avoid a potential water crisis, like the one in Flint, Michigan.

The DNR is potentially offering funds to help homeowners replace potential lead infested pipes with a new program under review.

It’s called the “Safe Drinking Water Loan Program.”

They will use  $11.7 million to remove aging lead pipes across the state.

On average, replacing pipes cost between $3,500 and $7,000.

There is often the question who is responsible for footing the bill?

While it is typically split between the homeowner and the city, the new program would cover the homeowners cost of replacement.

The program is still under review, but could begin as soon as July.
