New Revitalization Initiative For Near West Side

Some major players in Milwaukee, when it comes to business, are teaming up to revitalize the city's near west side.
Tuesday morning the Near West Side Partners which includes companies like Harley Davidson and Aurora Medical Center, among others, announced a $5 million challenge fund. Over the course of the next three years they hope to raise money to purchase properties both residential and commercial. 
They say in doing so it will help revitalize and sustain economic development in the neighborhood.  
Even though the challenge was announced this morning, They have already secured more than $2 million. That money comes from the Milwaukee urban strategic investment Corporation and the Harley Davidson foundation along with an $800,000 matching grant from Milwaukee County. 
Those Who are involved say this really is a community effort and hope to raise more than their 5 million dollar goal.
"There's so much work to be done," explained Keith Stanley, Executive Director of Near West Side.
"This is so important to the growth of this community."
Tonit Calaway, President of the Harley Davidson Foundation said, "Near West Side Partners is the face of a movement. That's what's happening in Milwaukee the renaissance of starting here so thank you."
