Gov. Walker Participates in Read Across America Day In Milwaukee

Wisconsin Governor, Scott Walker read the Fr. Seuss book, "What Pet Should I Get?" to the students at St. Anthonys School in Milwaukee Wednesday.

It was part of the national movement “Read Across America” which promotes literacy every March 2, which is also Dr. Suess’ birthday.

The Governor read to about 100 students in two classrooms.

Walker spent some time talking with the kids about how critical reading can be.

He said investing in reading programs like ‘Sharp Literacy’ and ‘Ready to Learn’ are the best ways to ensure a successful future for the State of Wisconsin.

"It's just critically important to have that tied together. That this is one of those magical times where these reading skills they get are things that then help them learn about everything else throughout junior high and high school, and really prepare them for the future,” Gov. Walker said.

Other city and state leaders also participated in Read Across America day.
