Source Says Some Arrests, No Injuries After People Ring in the New Year by Firing Off Guns in Milwaukee

A Police Supervisor tells CBS 58 News that it was an anxious night for residents and very dangerous for the officers in District 5 who had to respond to multiple shots fired calls as the clock struck midnight.

Nobody was hit.

Officers did recover several shell casings and initial reports indicate four people were taken into custody for firearms related violations. One estimate put the number of shots fired calls at nearly two dozen.

Police phone lines were flooded by concerned residents.

It was just a couple of years back the Milwaukee County Sheriff issued a warning about this kind of behavior.

Sheriff Clarke told CBS 58 News then that a bullet fired into the air can climb up to two miles and when it comes down, it falls some 300 to 700 feet per second.

Video that contains audio of what appears to be gunshots is now making the rounds on social media.

This has also become political.

Citizens posting on Bob Donovan's Mayoral Campaign Facebook page about how the current administration is not doing enough.

Milwaukee Police declined any comment on the topic.
