Free college tuition

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Sept. 9, 2015) -- A college education at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) free of charge. It's called the \"MATC Promise\", which is a program that will give low-income students a chance to succeed. The hope is that this will inspire qualified high school seniors to work hard and make a commitment to their educational success during this school year.

\"This is really geared toward students, who aren't currently thinking about college, may think that their family situation that it's not a possibility,\" said Kathleen Hohl, communications director for MATC.

It is now, thanks to this promise. MATC will essentially pay the difference after financial aid has been applied for high school seniors to go to MATC next fall. As long as the student has a 90 percent attendance rating and has a 2.0 GPA, they may qualify. A student also needs to take the ACT test and achieve a minimum composite score of 16. The college is willing to shell out the money for this and they hope it motivates high school seniors to shell out the energy to want to succeed.

\"It will be funded totally through our Milwaukee Area Technical College Foundation, and we hope that subsequent classes of high school graduates can benefit from the promise,\" Hohl added.
