Police Search for Man Posing as We Energies Employee

On Monday, August 31, West Bend Police Department received a complaint of a male who was posing as a We Energies employee and attempting to collect a utility payment by the use of a pre-paid credit card at the We Energies customer’s business.

This was not a We-Energies employee. Similar fraudulent representations or scams have occurred in other jurisdictions in southeastern Wisconsin and in West Bend in 2013.

In each instance the fake employee attempted to obtain credit card numbers from customers or have the customer obtain a pre-paid credit card and provide the card information to the scammer.

We Energies advised that the never collect payment from customers at a residence or in the field.

The West Bend Police Department and We Energies encourages anyone who encounters this type of activity to contact their local law enforcement agency and do not provide any credit card information.
