National Healthcare Decisions Day

This Thursday, April 16,  is National Healthcare Decisions Day.

It's a national movement aimed at thinking ahead about your medical decisions and preferences.

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare is hosting events at two hospital locations, St. Francis and Franklin, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. 

Attorneys, social workers, clinical ethicists and chaplains will be on hand to answer questions and help those who would like to complete a Power of Attorney Health Care documents.

Interpreters for Spanish-speaking community members will also be available to assist.

\"Educating patients about their options is crucial to ensuring their wishes are carried out in the event they are unable to make their own health care choices,\" explained Karen Smith, Clinical Ethicist at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.

Smith was a live guest on the CBS 58 News at 4 p.m. and spoke with anchor/reporter Michele McCormack on how to select a family member to serve as your power of attorney.
