RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) – Racine Police have released the identity of the victim killed in a stabbing on Thursday.

Authorities say the deceased victim is 35-year-old Gene Smith. A 36-year-old woman remains in critical condition.

Police say a suspect is in custody.

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) – Racine Police say a 35-year-old man is dead after being stabbed at a home near Sheffield and Bay Drives.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide. Authorities say there was a domestic disturbance that led to the stabbing around 12:49 a.m. on Thursday. A 36-year-old woman was also hurt and is in critical condition.

Police say a suspect is in custody.

There were children at the home, but they are safe and unharmed.

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) – A death investigation is underway in Racine.

Police say the department is investigating a death that happened near at a duplex near Sheffield and Bay Drives around 12:49 a.m. on Thursday.

Authorities say the scene is still active and ask the public to avoid the area.

A next door neighbor tells CBS 58 he heard a woman screaming and came outside to see squad cars pulling up.

"I'm amazed because I wouldn't think something like that would happen in Racine and especially next door to me," Bill Savage said. "Obviously, it just goes to show you don't know the people around the in the neighborhood that well."

An investigator with the Wisconsin State patrol says they were using a scanning device throughout the duplex.
