Can You Sue over Slipping or Falling on The Ice?

Clearing the sidewalks can be a boring task but it can possibly save you some legal trouble as well.  In fact, the city of Milwaukee's Department of Public Works says you have 24 hours after a snowstorm to clear your walkways.

And if you rent, make sure to read the fine print on your lease. You may be responsible for shoveling yourself instead of the property owner.  For what it's worth, Jason Abraham with Hupy & Abraham says it's hard to sue for slipping and falling because it can be difficult proving negligence.

Meantime, one ER doctor we spoke with says when the weather turns cold and snowy, it's not unheard of to see a handful of patients each hour who have suffered from slips or falls. The one thing to avoid, Dr. Jonathan Rubin of Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin says, is falling on your head. If you do, there are some sure signs, turning up in just a matter of hours, you may have had a concussion. Repeated vomiting, severe headaches, and behavior changes are possible symptoms.

If you have any of these symptoms or are in doubt, call your doctor or go to an ER immediately.
