First Milwaukee area baby of 2015 is born

Congratulations are in order for the Menke family as Milwaukee's first baby of 2015 arrived at 12:01 a.m.

Baby Lucas was born at Froedtert Hospital at 6 pounds, 11 ounces.

The New Year's Day arrival is the second special birth for the Menke family. Lucas' older brother turns 3 this year on Valentine's Day.

\"I pushed at 12 o'clock and he was here at 12:01,\" mother Kristy Menke told CBS 58 News.

Her due date had always been December 31st and 2 p.m. the doctor decided to induce.

\"Usually I deliver quickly,\" Kristy shared. \"So, I thought he'll be born on the 31st.\"

As things dragged on, the staff at Froedtert Hospital realized they'd be hosting our region's New Year's baby.

Mom didn't mind extra company come delivery time.

\"I said whoever wants to come in can come in. Everybody had hats and was real excited.\"

Many of the nurses had never experienced this.

\"We were all there with our New Year's hats on, ready to scream and holler,\" recalled Angie Conto of Froedtert Hospital.

Word is that the hospitals can get fairly competitive about the whole thing and were calling each other in the overnight hours to see who stake their claim to fame.

\"I heard the closest was 19 minutes after midnight they told me,\" said mom Kristy.

So does she get anything special for this distinction?

Clutching her youngest she replied \"I got him, right?\"
