Lightning Strikes Seven after Packers Game...Don't Let This Happen to You!

Here we are the first day of winter, and we're talking about lightning.  Unfortunately, seven people were struck by it on Sunday after a Tampa Bay Bucs game against the Packers.  The incident happened in a parking lot near the stadium during heavy rains. No fatalities were reported.

Lightning is the number two weather killer, after flooding. It's estimated in the U.S. alone 50 people are killed each year.

Remember no place outside is really safe when storms are in the area.  If you hear thunder, chances are lightning is close enough to hit you.  When you hear thunder, move to a safe shelter with electricity or plumbing.  Remain there until at least 30 minutes after you hear the last sound of thunder.

Inside, stay away from electronics.  Avoid plumbing and stay away from windows, doors, and porches.  Do not lie on concrete floors or lean against concrete walls. 

If you're caught outside, never lie flat on the ground.  Get away from bodies of water and stay away from electric-conductive items.  If you feel a tingling sensation, chances are lightning might be ready to strike you.  If this is the case, crouch down with your head between your knees.
