EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings announced that Adrian Peterson underwent sports hernia surgery on Thursday. The surgery was needed to repair an abdominal core muscle.

The team issued a statement saying they "expect a speedy recovery with no long-term concerns."

Peterson was bothered by an abdominal injury for the last month of the season but was still able to amass the second-most rushing yardage in league history.
