Selection Sunday: Golden Eagles, Badgers get their assignments
The NCAA Selection Show on CBS 58 had fans of both Marquette and Wisconsin on the edges of their seats. After the dust settled nearly an hour later, both teams and their fans had all the details they would need for the tough first week ahead in the NCAA Tournament.
The Badgers begin their Tournament run in Kansas City, Missouri in the West Regional. The Badgers were a surprise #5 seed after many experts pegged Wisconsin to be seeded 4th, or even 3rd, thanks to their run to the Big Ten Tournament title game.
Wisconsin will play Ole Miss Friday in Kansas City. The Rebels won the SEC Tournament earlier Sunday.
With a win Friday, Wisconsin would advance to the round of 32 to face either Kansas State (#4 seed) or the winner of the Boise State-LaSalle play-in game, which happens in Dayton.
Marquette is in the East Region, garnering a #3 seed thanks to an undefeated home record and some great play late in the regular season.
The Golden Eagles play Davidson Thursday in Lexington. Davidson won the Southern Conference Tournament last week.
With a win Thursday, Marquette moves on to face either Butler or Bucknell Saturday in Lexington.
Both teams have dreams of advancing to the Sweet 16, which would send Marquette to Washington DC and Wisconsin to Los Angeles.
CBS 58 has crews following both teams throughout the Tournament. Stay tuned for complete coverage of MU and UW as they make their tournament runs!
