TEMPE, AZ - The Pac-12 conference has admitted that referees made a mistake at the end of Saturday's Badgers game at Arizona State.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott released a statement saying "we have determined that the officials fell short of the high standard in which Pac-12 games should be managed. We will continue to work with all our officials to ensure this type of situation never occurs again."

The release also says officials will face "additional sanctions" for not moving "with appropriate urgency to clearly communicate that the ball was to be spotted so play could resume promptly."

Joel Stave took a knee with 18 second to go and then placed the ball on the ground. In the ensuing confusion, some Arizona State players fell on what they believed to be a live ball. The clock ended before the Badgers could run another play.
