One and done: Marquette loses in Big East quarterfinalsNEW YORK - The Big East Conference is changing in a major way this offseason. And Marquette's last memory of the old Big East won't be a pleasant one. The Golden Eagles blew a 13 point first-half lead, then gave up 44 points after halftime in a 73-65 loss to Notre Dame in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden. Jamil Wilson scored 16 points, and Junior Cadougan added 14. Pat Connaughton hit six three-pointers for Notre Dame, who advance to face Louisville in the Big East Semifinals Friday night. Wilson hit a three pointer with 2:50 to play to cut the Notre Dame lead to five, but Connaughton answered with a three of his own that sealed the Golden Eagles' fate. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show happens Sunday afternoon at 5:00 on CBS 58. |
