Marquette clinches share of Big East title
NEW YORK -- Marquette finished its final season in the current Big East in style, clinching a share of the conference regular season title Saturday.
The 15th-ranked Golden Eagles beat St. John's 69-67 in overtime to win a share its first championship in the Big East since joining the conference. Jamal Branch's layup with 27 seconds left tied the game at 63. But Vander Blue scored with 48 seconds left in overtime to tie it things at 67, and again to win it with no time on the clock. Blue had 16 points for Marquette, who will have a 3rd seed in the Big East tournament, after tying for the league title with Louisville and Georgetown. |
